early life and education
With humble origins from rural Massachusetts, saxophonist and composer Andrew Bedard’s passion for teaching and performing music drove him straight into the Boston music scene from an early age. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Music from the New England Conservatory where he had the opportunity to learn from jazz masters Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, Jerry Bergonzi, Donny McCaslin, Mark Turner, Frank Carlberg, Miguel Zenon, Billy Hart, Ted Reichman, and John McNeil. Since his studies, he has continued to play music specializing in a variety of improvisational styles.
community engagement
Sharing his music with schools, healthcare settings, homeless shelters, and more, Andrew is deeply involved in the community. Recently, he attended the Virginia Arts Festival as a guest artist and spends much of his time tutoring young, up-and-coming musicians at the Boston Latin Academy (Boston) and St. Patrick Academy (Providence).
music and career
Andrew’s uniquely understated tone makes him a supportive sideman, while giving his own music a distinctive sound. He is the saxophonist for the highly-rated wedding band, Protege, and frequently performs at venues including the Newport Jazz Festival, Wally’s Jazz Cafe, the Lily Pad in Cambridge, Boston Symphony Hall, and WICN Radio in Worcester occasionally sharing the bandstand with revered musicians such as Chris Brubeck, Jerry Sabatini, Miguel Zenon, Jerry Bergonzi, Grammy-nominated vocalist Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti, and Dave Holland.
